TABLE-TOP montage
This short clip contains various samples
of Table-Top I’ve shot over the years. Some food, some product, some
product demos, etc…
I believe everything is 35mm. The Duncan-Hines
cake frosting shot may be 16mm.
Several of these are ‘action’ table-tops
with products rolling, spinning or dropping, not your typical fair.
I certainly have shot the run-of-the-mill table tops, but I really enjoy
the ‘action’ shots with food in motion, products rolling or sliding,
etc..
The clip of the SURE deodorant package
shot was actually a multi-pass in-camera creation where we ‘painted
with light’ on the product. The scene was dressed and every light
on the stage was extinguished. We focused the lens on the word SURE
and literally painted the light across the printed surface, frame by
frame with a small fiber-optic light source, a 3 second exposure per
frame.
After that pass in camera, I re-wound
the film to the first frame and set the focus to closer than the product,
thus throwing the product out of focus, and ‘painted the light’
on the surrounding product canister. After this pass, re-wound the film
and started on the surrounding scene, shooting one pass in focus, then
another out of focus of the various glass objects, sometimes with a
diffusion filter in camera, sometimes slightly out of focus. Always
with the light source in a slight motion.
It made for a really incredible yet sur-realistic
shot!
The tomatoes on black-glass were shot
at 150fps with a new Arri T-12 12K tungsten light source.
Just about everything from DedoLights
to Micro-Flos were used somewhere in this montage.
