"COFFEE HOUSE RENDEZVOUS”

Simple yet elegant spot. Couple enjoys coffee and each other in a small coffee house.

Nice use of long lens with very shallow depth of field. Overcranked camera [I believe 40 fps & telecined @ 24fps] with slow dolly moves and slight rolling dutches. No camera filtration.

Believe it or not, a simple 3 wall set and entirely lit with only 2 lights!!! We used a few mirrors and other reflective things for the pour shot, but we maintained a total of 2 lights...I seem to remember a naked 5K bulb and a 2K Mighty hitting into a large bounce card which was covered in a Burnt Umber seamless paper.

Due to the legalities of shooting P&G table-tops, we HAD to use really hot and steaming coffee, no nasty chemical mixtures, to create the steam. So, the stylist relied on the old tradition of nuking tampons in a glass of water in a microwave oven...when sufficiently hot, dropping them into the coffee cup to super-heat the coffee, and then pulling them out just when camera hits "speed". Just imagine being the male talent, hoisting up the prop coffee cup for a sip, immediately after the stylist pulls out 2 steaming tampons.....[ah, the glamour of Hollywood! This is one time when I wished it really could be all done with mirrors!]

We strung a strand of white Christmas bulbs outside the set"s French doors to simulate night city exterior.
